Methods of Installation: Pros and Cons
THE ADVANTAGES OF INSTALLING PARQUET USING THE FLOATING METHOD
Advantages
- Quick and simple
- Easier to insulate against step sound
- Can be installed on most types of self-supporting sub-flooring
- Easier to insulate against damp in the sub-floor
Drawback
- Only a limited area can be installed without dividing up the floor
- The parquet must be allowed freedom of movement - walls must not be mounted on the floor
- Each room should be installed individually (not continuous)
- This method requires a precisely level and smooth sub-floor
- High reverberation, especially when used in connection with good sound proofing against step sound
THE ADVANTAGES OF INSTALLING PARQUET GLUED TO THE SUB-FLOOR
Advantages
- A very stable floor
- It can withstand a greater fluctuation in climate
- Very good acoustics in the room (very little reverberation)
- Can be installed over a large area without dividing up the floor
- Can be installed continuously between rooms
ADVANTAGES OF GLUEING PARQUET TO CONCRETE
- Very stable
- Flexible, with the view to furnishing solutions
- Walls etc. can be mounted on the parquet
- Withstands greater changes in climatic conditions
- Very good acoustic properties
- Can be installed over larger areas without the need for an expansion gap in the field of the floor
- Can be installed continuously between rooms without the need for an expansion gap in the field of the floor
Drawback
- Requires thorough drying of the concrete, which must not exceed 65 % RH
- Sub-floor wood sheeting should be installed at a 45° angle to the parquet
- Installation costs are usually higher
- Step sound is higher
THE ADVANTAGES OF INSTALLING PARQUET BY NAILING IT TO THE SUBFLOOR
Advantages
- Can be installed continuously over several rooms
- Withstands more deviation in the sub-flooring
- Walls can be mounted on the floor
Drawback
- Fluctuating quality in the chipboard can lead to bad attachment to the nails
- A danger of floors producing creaking sounds
NAILING/SCREWING TO BEAMS/JOISTS:
Advantages
- Saves on sub-flooring
- Can be installed continuously between rooms without the need to divide up the floors
- Walls can be mounted on the floor
Drawback
- Relatively high reverberation and step sound
